Creixell Mayor faces criticism for speaking Spanish on TV3

Montserrat Muñoz Madueño, the mayor of Creixell, has faced significant criticism after choosing to speak exclusively in Spanish during an official interview on TV3 regarding recent torrential rains in the Costa Daurada region.

Critics and social media users have pointed out that this action may violate Catalonia's Language Policy Law (Law 1/1998), which establishes Catalan as the official language of all institutions and mandates its use by local administrations. The controversy is heightened by the fact that Muñoz, a member of the PSC, governs Creixell through a political pact that includes pro-independence parties such as Junts and ERC.

The incident has reignited debates regarding the commitment of certain local representatives to the promotion and institutional use of the Catalan language.
