Crema faces local police shortages and security debates

The local police force in Crema is facing a significant personnel shortage, a situation that has sparked political debate within the municipality. The Fratelli d’Italia group has attributed the lack of attractiveness of the role to insufficient economic incentives. They argue that new officers are choosing to work in other municipalities due to an obsolete welfare system. To address this, they have proposed using revenue from traffic fines to fund assistance and social security measures for staff, as well as introducing meal vouchers for shift workers.

Meanwhile, the Italian Socialist Party has welcomed the deployment of State Police crime prevention and mobile units to the area, along with the assignment of five new officers to the Crema Police Station. While supporting increased controls to combat petty crime, the party cautioned against turning public safety into a political confrontation against the Bergamaschi administration. They emphasized that while repression is necessary, long-term security requires community investment in integration, education, and social support.
