Crema launches incentive program for bicycle commuters

The municipality of Crema has approved the guidelines for ‘Bike to Work – Crema ti premia’, a new initiative designed to incentivize residents to use bicycles for their daily commutes. The program aims to reduce traffic congestion and atmospheric pollution by rewarding commuters who choose cycling over cars or motorcycles.

Participants, who must be adults residing in the municipality or working within the local area, will use the Wecity app to track their journeys. For every kilometer cycled between home and work, participants will earn 20 coins, equivalent to 20 cents. Earnings are capped at 2 euros per day and a maximum of 30 euros per month. These credits are not cash but vouchers that can be spent at participating local neighborhood shops.

The experimental phase is limited to the first 250 registered users. To maintain eligibility, participants must cycle for at least 18 days per quarter. The project is supported by a 15,000 euro budget, which includes a 5,000 euro contribution from the Lgh Foundation and funds for the Wecity service management.
