Cremona Cathedral launches fundraising for storm damage repairs

A fundraising campaign titled ‘Ripartiamo e ricostruiamo’ (Let’s restart and rebuild) has been launched to restore the Cremona Cathedral following severe damage caused by a violent storm on August 28. The storm, characterized by intense wind, hail, and rain, caused significant damage to the city’s historic center, including the Cathedral, the Town Hall, and the Civic Tower.

Specific repairs are required for the small tower on the northern facade and the rose window on the main facade. Monsignor Gianluca Gaiardi, rector of the Cathedral, noted that the community has shown immense support through offers of assistance. Donations can be made directly at the Cathedral, via electronic collection boxes, or through bank transfers specifically designated for the restoration efforts.

One week after the event, the city of Cremona continues to deal with the aftermath of the weather event, which uprooted trees, damaged roofs, and destroyed vehicles. While cleanup efforts by civil protection and volunteers are ongoing, the full economic impact of the storm is still being assessed.
