Cremona joins Terre des Hommes ‘Indifesa’ campaign for girls' rights
The Municipality of Cremona has officially joined the ‘Indifesa’ campaign, an initiative promoted by the NGO Terre des Hommes. The campaign aims to protect the rights of girls worldwide, specifically focusing on their access to education, health, and protection from all forms of violence, discrimination, and abuse.
Proposed by Marina Della Giovanna, the Councilor for Social Policies and Equal Opportunities, the initiative includes several awareness actions. To mark the International Day of the Girl Child on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the city will display the campaign banner on the facade of Palazzo Ala Ponzone. Additionally, the Town Hall will be illuminated in orange, the symbolic color of the campaign, at dusk.
The decision follows data from the third Istat survey on women's safety in Italy, which indicates that violence often takes root during childhood and within the family. According to the survey cited by Della Giovanna, 8.2% of Italian women experienced sexual violence before the age of 16, with most incidents occurring during puberty and involving individuals known to the victims.
