Cremona's San Lorenzo Basilica to be center of historical study

The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is hosting a scholarly conference titled ‘Fondazioni e rinascite. S. Lorenzo di Cremona nel contesto monastico italiano’ to examine the history of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Cremona. Documented well before the year 1000, the basilica is one of the city's oldest religious sites.

Organized by the Department of Medieval, Humanistic, and Renaissance Studies and the Center for Studies on the History of European Monastic Settlements (Cesime), the event aims to place the church and its monastery within the broader context of Italian monastic foundations from the Middle Ages to the early modern period. The conference will feature researchers and cultural officials discussing the site's evolution from an ancient necropolis to a monastic complex and museum.
