Creotech Instruments plans tenfold satellite production boost by 2029

Polish satellite manufacturer Creotech Instruments plans to increase its production capacity tenfold by 2029. CEO Grzegorz Brona announced that the company intends to open a new factory in the Mazowieckie region capable of producing 40 satellites per year of mixed types, or up to 100 of a single model. This is a significant increase from its current capacity of 10 satellites per year at its Piaseczno site.

Brona warned that Europe remains heavily dependent on United States launch vehicles to place satellites into orbit. He noted that while Europe could produce thousands of satellites, it lacks the necessary rockets to launch them. Last year, Europe accounted for only 8 of the 324 global orbital launches, while the US conducted 193. Additionally, SpaceX’s Starlink network currently represents more than 60% of all active satellites, according to European Space Agency data.

The company has actively avoided using US technology in its satellites to prevent being subject to US arms export regulations, which can allow Washington to block sales of hardware containing American components. However, Creotech still relies on US-made rockets for launches, such as SpaceX carrying four satellites for Poland’s MikroGlob military program.
