Cres: Search for missing foreign national ends in tragedy

The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) has recovered the body of a foreign national following a search operation on the island of Cres. The search was concentrated in the Lubenica area.

The operation began on Friday morning following a request from the Mali Lošinj police station. A total of 16 HGSS members, including 13 from the Rijeka station and three from the Lošinj intervention base, participated in the search. Rescuers utilized a drone to assist in scanning the difficult and inaccessible terrain.

The search concluded in the early hours of Saturday morning around 1:00 AM. While the body has been located, official details regarding the identity, nationality, age, and gender of the deceased have not yet been released. Police are expected to issue a statement regarding the cause of death.
