Crete: 36 migrants rescued at Agiofarago beach

A group of 36 migrants, consisting of 28 men, 5 women, and 3 minors, arrived at the Agiofarago beach in the Faistos municipality of Crete. The group was rescued from the difficult-to-access beach by a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vessel and transported to the port of Kaloi Limenes using a fishing boat.

The migrants reported that they departed from the Tobruk region of Libya on the night of September 20, 2026. Each individual reportedly paid between 14,000 and 16,000 Libyan dinars for the journey to Greece.

During the preliminary investigation conducted by the Heraklion Port Authority, a 17-year-old South Sudanese national was arrested. The other migrants identified him as their smuggler. He faces charges related to illegal entry, facilitation, and exposure.
