The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a Fire Risk Forecast Map indicating a very high fire risk (level 4) for several Greek regions, including Crete and Karpathos. Consequently, the National Mechanism for Civil Protection has been placed on Red Code status to ensure full mobilization of personnel and resources.

In Crete, the regional units of Heraklion, Lasithi, and Rethymno are under high alert. In the South Aegean region, the regional unit of Karpathos is also facing extreme risk. Authorities have instructed local and regional operational coordination bodies to convene immediately to prepare for potential emergencies.

To mitigate the danger, authorities have implemented aerial surveillance and ground patrols involving fire services, police, and military forces. Fire service personnel in high-risk areas have been placed on partial alert. Additionally, preventative bans are in effect, prohibiting the burning of agricultural residues, the use of fire in the countryside for any purpose, and certain outdoor activities that could cause sparks.
