Crete Development Organization presents water resilience plan at Athens forum

At a Water Resources Management Forum organised by the Pan‑Hellenic Association of Environmental Protection Enterprises (PASEPPE) in Athens, the Development Organization of Crete (O.A.K.) was represented by its CEO, Aris Papadogiannis. He outlined the island’s mounting challenges from the climate crisis, growing water demand and shifting hydrological patterns.

Papadogiannis detailed O.A.K.’s work on key hydraulic assets – the Apseleme dam, the Amareio rivers dam, the Agios Georgios reservoir and the extensive irrigation networks of western Crete – and stressed the need to boost the resilience of these infrastructures. He called for the adoption of new technologies, water reuse, coordinated management and implementation of the Crete Hydraulic Works Master Plan. “Water management is one of the biggest challenges and a key development priority for Crete,” he said.
