Crete energy security: MP calls for alternative DEDDIE plan
Konstantinos Kefalogiannis, a New Democracy MP for Heraklion, has submitted a formal inquiry to the Ministry of Environment and Energy regarding the energy security of Crete. The request calls for the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) to develop an alternative plan to ensure energy sufficiency on the island.
This follows recent energy crises, including a partial blackout caused by damage to the main interconnection cable between Crete and mainland Greece, as well as power outages due to heavy rainfall. Kefalogiannis emphasized the need for an alternative solution to provide energy coverage in the event that the connection to mainland Greece fails, particularly during the high-demand summer tourist season. He also addressed the need to tackle understaffing at the DEDDIE Heraklion offices while maintaining high levels of technical expertise.
