Migrants rescued in maritime operations off Crete and Libya

Multiple maritime rescue operations involving migrants have been conducted off the coasts of Crete and Libya.

In the Mediterranean, the Hellenic Coast Guard and Frontex coordinated four operations south of Crete and Gavdos, resulting in the rescue of approximately 205 individuals. These operations included the interception of two vessels near Gavdos carrying 102 people and two separate incidents near Kaloi Limenes and Ierapetra involving roughly 103 people. The rescued groups consist primarily of nationals from Sudan, South Sudan, Egypt, and Somalia, including several women and minors. The individuals are being processed and transferred to ports such as Heraklion and Paleochora.

In North Africa, the Libyan General Directorate of Coastal Security rescued 87 migrants from two rubber boats off the eastern coast of Libya near Tobruk and Ras Al-Tin. The rescued group includes 80 Sudanese nationals, three Egyptians, and four Bangladeshis, including five women and an infant. All individuals were transferred to a disembarkation point in Tobruk for processing.
