Crete Festival concludes with Dimitris Maramih musical premiere

The 6th Festival of the Region of Crete concluded at the Nikos Kazantzakis Open Air Theater in Heraklion with the premiere of ‘Crete Myths’ (Kritis Mythoi), a new musical work by Dimitris Maramih.

The contemporary composition draws inspiration from iconic figures of Cretan mythology, including Europa, Pasiphae, Ariadne, Phaedra, and Akakallida. The performance aimed to create a dialogue between Minoan civilization, the Cretan Renaissance, and modern artistic creation. The production incorporated lyrics from significant Cretan creators such as Vitsentzos Kornaros and Georgios Hortatsis.

Featuring vocalists Melas Gerofoti, Eirini Chalkiadaki, Melina Mavidou, and Dimitris Kopsi, alongside violin by Uilly Pimenides Whelan and piano by Maramih, the event sought to demonstrate the continuity of Cretan culture and its ability to transform tradition into modern art.
