Crete hotels receive certification to protect sea turtles

Eight hotels in Crete have received the ‘Turtle-Friendly Hotel’ certification as part of the TUI Turtle Aid Greece program. This initiative is implemented by the TUI Care Foundation in collaboration with ARCHELON to protect sea turtles and their habitats.

The certification is awarded to establishments that implement specific practices to protect nesting beaches and reduce the impact of tourism on coastal habitats. The participating hotels include five units in Chania and three in Rethymno.

Award ceremonies were held in early September at Kato Stalou beach in Chania and Adelianos Kampos beach in Rethymno, both of which are key nesting sites for the Caretta caretta sea turtle.
