Crete launches outdoor tourism campaign as European Gastronomy Region 2026
The Region of Crete has begun a targeted outdoor advertising campaign to promote its designation as a European Gastronomy Region for 2026. Ten installations – including roll‑up banners at land‑gate entrances and durable PVC signs at ports and the Sitia airport – have been placed at the entry points of the eastern Cretan towns of Agios Nikolaos, Sitia and Ierapetra.
The first installation was set up at the port of Agios Nikolaos in the presence of Lasithi Deputy Governor Giannis Androulaki, Port Authority President Dimitris Agapitos and Tourism Directorate official Maria Lavdaki. Androulaki stressed that systematic promotion of Crete’s culinary wealth is essential for attracting visitors and supporting the primary sector and tourism.
The initiative forms part of the 2026 Tourism Promotion Programme and leverages the honorary distinction “Crete – European Gastronomy Region 2026” to enhance the island’s outward orientation and authentic identity.
