Crete man arrested for alleged sexual abuse of goddaughter

A 59-year-old man has been arrested and placed in custody in Crete following allegations of sexual abuse against his 14-year-old goddaughter. The investigation was initiated after a 48-year-old mother reported the abuse to authorities.

Reports indicate that the abuse may have begun in 2016, when the victim was only four years old. The suspect allegedly exploited his close relationship with the family, frequently hosting the girl at his home in Chania while maintaining contact with the family in Rethymno.

Following the mother's complaint, police investigations and the victim's testimony provided evidence supporting the allegations. During the search, authorities discovered child pornography on the suspect's mobile phone. The man was charged with the sexual abuse of a minor and the possession of child pornography. He was ordered to be held in prison while the investigation continues.
