A 36-year-old man in Crete has been imprisoned for two months after being found guilty of domestic violence against his 29-year-old wife. The incident occurred on August 13, when the victim reported being punched in the head and face while she was sleeping.

The assault was reportedly triggered by the man's jealousy after he inspected her mobile phone and discovered a previous call from a mutual friend. The victim, a mother of two children aged 4 and 7, informed authorities that she had been experiencing systematic abuse for the past five years but had not previously filed a formal complaint.

During the attack, the couple's youngest child woke up, prompting the woman to attempt to move toward the child, at which point she began to feel unwell due to her injuries. The perpetrator allegedly threatened to kill her and then commit suicide. Following her report to the Fistos Police Station, the man was arrested and subsequently sentenced by the Heraklion Single-Member Misdemeanor Court.
