Crete named most photographed Greek island on social media

Crete has been ranked as the most photographed Greek island on social media, according to a new study published by Condé Nast Traveller. The ranking was determined by analyzing anonymous geolocation data from photos uploaded to the Popsa photo album application.

Crete secured the top position, surpassing other popular destinations such as Santorini, Rhodes, Corfu, and Mykonos. The magazine attributes Crete's success to its large geographic area and diverse landscapes, ranging from rugged coastlines and gorges to mountain villages and historical monuments. Unlike smaller, more crowded destinations, Crete allows visitors to discover less-known corners and avoid overcrowding.

Santorini follows in second place, noted for its iconic white houses and blue domes. Other islands appearing in the rankings include Rhodes, Corfu, Mykonos, Kos, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Paros, and Naxos. The report also noted that the hashtag #GreekIslands has exceeded 4.5 million posts on Instagram.
