Crete officials commend fire crews and water utility after Pastra blaze

Mayor Ioannis Zervos of Sfakia thanked fire brigade commander Staur Pylmakis for his swift rescue of a young girl who lost consciousness during a fire incident in the region. Zervos highlighted the fire service’s professionalism, calmness and readiness, praising their ongoing work in the mountainous terrain of Sfakia.

Argyris Gavriélatos, president of the Crete Water Utility (DEYA), expressed gratitude to firefighters, civil protection, DEYA staff, volunteers and local residents for rapidly restoring water supply after a large fire devastated the Pastra area. He noted the coordinated effort of the fire service, municipal authorities, the regional civil protection agency, and the electricity provider in repairing the damaged network and ensuring water availability during the crisis.
