Crete Organized Crime Sub-Directorate inaugurated in Heraklion
Greece's Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, is scheduled to visit Heraklion to inaugurate the new Crete Organized Crime Sub-Directorate. Accompanied by Police Lieutenant General Fotis Douitsis, the Minister will attend the ceremony in Archanes to mark the upgrade of the existing department into a specialized Sub-Directorate.
The new unit will have jurisdiction over the entire island of Crete and will operate under the central Directorate for Combating Organized Crime. While permanent facilities in Archanes are still under construction, the service will temporarily operate out of the Heraklion Police Headquarters and the Open University building in Archanes.
The Sub-Directorate is organized into five specialized departments: drug prosecution, special criminal activities (including serious crimes against life and property, as well as livestock and fish theft), human trafficking and illegal goods, economic crime prosecution, and information and administrative support. This restructuring aims to enhance the police's ability to combat complex criminal networks across the region.
