Crete human trafficking ring dismantled by Greek police

Greek authorities have dismantled a human trafficking ring operating in Crete. The criminal organization systematically brought young women from Romania to the island, where they were held hostage and forced into sexual exploitation in hotels and private residences in Heraklion.

Police have arrested three individuals, including an elderly couple believed to have been responsible for guarding the women. A 31-year-old Romanian national, identified as the alleged ringleader, remains at large and is the subject of an active manhunt. Investigators believe the group maintained control by seizing the victims' travel documents to prevent escape.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities look into whether more victims were involved. Evidence suggests the ringleader maintained a relationship with one of the victims to exert control and personally collect proceeds from the exploitation.
