Crete producers request inclusion in PDO Feta production
The Agricultural Corporate Partnership of Heraklion has officially petitioned the Ministry of Rural Development and Food to revise the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status for Feta. The group is requesting that Crete be included in the authorized production regions.
Producers argue that a severe shortage of sheep and goat milk threatens the sustainability of this iconic Greek product. They contend that Cretan milk quality meets or exceeds current regulatory standards and that the region possesses the necessary livestock capacity to support production, which could help stabilize the national dairy market.
