Crete Region coordinates 2026–2030 development program with local municipalities

The Region of Crete held a working meeting with the municipalities of Heraklion, Lasithi, and Agios Nikolaos to coordinate the implementation of the Regional Development Program (RDP) for 2026–2030. Led by Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis, the meeting focused on accelerating the submission of mature project proposals and maximizing the absorption of available financial resources.

Under the new framework, each municipality in Crete is allocated 2 million euros for infrastructure projects that do not fall under the NSRF (ΕΣΠΑ), such as local roadworks, urban regeneration, and water/sewage networks. The overall regional development plan totals 260 million euros, with a significant priority placed on road safety, which is slated to receive over 100 million euros.

Local officials, including the Mayor of Agios Nikolaos, Manolis Menegakis, emphasized the readiness of many municipalities to submit mature projects. The discussions highlighted the need for rapid administrative processes and timely tenders to ensure that funds are utilized effectively for the benefit of local communities.
