Rethymno honors retiring educators in Crete ceremony

The Region of Crete, in collaboration with the Primary and Secondary Education Directorates of Rethymno, held a commemorative ceremony at the House of Culture to honor educators retiring in 2024 and 2025.

The event recognized the long-term contributions of these teachers to the formation of students and the transmission of values within the community. Eleni Maraki-Beladaki, the Region of Crete's Special Advisor for Education and Lifelong Learning, described the educators as ‘tireless workers of the spirit’ whose impact on students remains indelible.

Professor Theodoros Eleftherakis from the University of Crete served as the keynote speaker, discussing the educator's legacy from the classroom to society. The ceremony included musical performances by the Rethymno Primary Education Orchestra, directed by Antonis Mavrakis, and was attended by representatives from the church, local government, and the academic community.
