Crete to host international atmospheric chemistry conference in 2026

Heraklion, Crete, is set to host the iCACGP-IGAC 2026 International Conference from September 6 to 11, 2026. The event is organized jointly by the International Programme on Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) and the International Commission on Atmospheric Chemistry and Global Pollution (iCACGP).

Expected to gather over 700 researchers from around the world, the conference theme is ‘Atmospheric Chemistry within the Earth System: Understanding changes and impacts’. Discussions will focus on the interactions between the atmosphere and the biosphere, oceans, ice, and land. Key topics include pollutant emissions, climate-air quality interactions, and the application of artificial intelligence in atmospheric observation and modeling.

The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary and international cooperation regarding global sustainability and climate change. Maria Kanakidou, a professor at the University of Crete and President of the Local Organizing Committee, noted that Crete’s strategic position at the crossroads of three continents makes it a unique meeting point for this scientific dialogue.
