Crete tourism faces labor exploitation allegations despite high occupancy

Despite tourism reaching 100% occupancy in Crete during the peak season, the Hotel Employees Association has raised serious allegations regarding labor exploitation. The association warns that the use of successive monthly contracts is creating job insecurity, driving young workers to leave the sector or seek employment abroad.

Reports indicate that staff shortages are leading to intensified workloads, with some employees covering multiple roles. Additionally, there are complaints regarding workplace bullying, verbal attacks, and the misuse of digital work cards. It is alleged that some supervisors instruct employees not to clock in for all hours worked to circumvent labor laws, resulting in unpaid overtime.
