Crete tourism officials report unusual visitor complaints

Tourism officials in Crete are reporting a wide range of unusual and sometimes absurd complaints from visitors. Kyriakos Kotsoglou, the Vice Regional Governor for Tourism, noted that while many grievances are serious, others are highly unconventional.

Specific examples include a visitor asking if anything could be done about the abundance of sand on the island, and another demanding compensation because they felt ‘disadvantaged’ by the presence of a donkey in heat outside their hotel room.

In a recent incident, a tourist requested a full or partial refund after claiming to have been bitten by a mosquito inside their hotel room. Following an inspection by health authorities, no insects were found in the room, suggesting the bite occurred outdoors. Despite the findings, the visitor continued to escalate the complaint to the Ministry of Tourism and other regulatory bodies.
