Crete vultures face exhaustion due to high temperatures

Recent sightings of vultures in Crete have highlighted the physical toll of high temperatures and dehydration on local wildlife. In one unusual incident, a vulture was filmed standing calmly on the hood of a moving vehicle.

In a separate event on the BOAK highway near Rethymno, a young vulture was found exhausted and unable to fly due to extreme heat. A passing driver and several bystanders intervened to protect the bird from oncoming traffic, providing it with water and food. The Forest Service was notified and arrived to take the animal into care for recovery.
