Crete's BOAK road undergoes 24-hour closures for bridge demolition
The Lasithi Police Directorate has announced emergency traffic regulations for the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK) on the section between Neapoli and Agios Nikolaos. The measures involve 24-hour traffic interruptions to facilitate bridge demolition works between km 187 (Neapoli Junction) and km 197 (Xerokampou Junction).
The closures are scheduled in two phases:
First, from 06:00 on September 17, 2026, until 06:00 on September 21, 2026, for the demolition of bridge T6.
Second, from 06:00 on September 25, 2026, until 18:00 on September 29, 2026, for the demolition of bridge T5.
Vehicles weighing up to 12 tons will be diverted via the Old National Road. Specifically, traffic from Agios Nikolaos to Heraklion will use the Old National Road, while traffic from Neapoli to Agios Nikolaos will follow the route via PEO – Lakonisi – Kritsa Junction. Heavy vehicles exceeding 12 tons must use the Southern Road Axis, specifically the Ierapetra-Viannos-Heraklion provincial road.
