Crete's Laiki Syspeirosi opposes TERNA renewable energy project
The Laiki Syspeirosi party in Crete has voted against the Environmental Impact Study for eight wind farms proposed by TERNA in the municipalities of Ierapetra and Sitia. The decision was made during a meeting of the Regional Environment Committee on Friday, October 23.
Aleko Marinakis, leader of Laiki Syspeirosi Crete, criticized the investment, stating that such projects benefit only a few while harming the environment and increasing energy costs for local residents. He noted that regional service employees had also issued negative opinions regarding the TERNA investment. Marinakis further argued that current 'green growth' policies promoted by the EU and various Greek political parties lead to energy poverty and the loss of cheaper energy sources.
