Crete’s Tourism Revenue Falls 5% in 2025 Even as Visitors Rise

A new INSETE study on Greek tourism shows Crete remains a top destination, contributing 20.9% of all overnight stays and 19.2% of total tourism revenues. Nationally, inbound visits reached 41.7 million (37.9 million unique) in 2025, with tourism receipts climbing 9.8% to €22.6 billion.

Despite a 6.6% increase in arrivals and a 4.1% rise in overnight stays on the island, Crete’s own tourism receipts dropped 5% year‑on‑year. The region stays in the top three Greek provinces for performance and ranks second nationwide for average spend per visitor, trailing only the South Aegean.

The study also notes a broader trend of shorter stays, with the average length of stay decreasing in 12 of the 13 regions.
