Criciúma and Florianópolis appoint interim mayors as municipal leadership shifts

Neto Ugioni is set to assume the mayoralty of Criciúma next week. His takeover comes as the city grapples with the closure of the Santa Catarina Hospital’s emergency and obstetric units, a transport disruption after a consortium withdrew about 20 buses, and a pending proposal to reduce the standard workweek to 40 hours.

In Florianópolis, Vice‑Mayor Maryanne Mattos will serve as acting mayor from 28 May to 3 June while Mayor Topázio Neto is on vacation. Mattos pledged to keep essential services running and highlighted the city’s 100‑year anniversary and the 22nd anniversary of its municipal guard during her brief tenure.
