Cricket Australia retains Ash Gardner as vice-captain

Cricket Australia has endorsed Ash Gardner to continue her role as Australia’s vice-captain following discussions regarding her personal relationship with teammate Georgia Voll. While the board expressed high regard for Gardner’s leadership, Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg announced the implementation of additional “guard rails” to manage any perceived or actual conflicts of interest.

To ensure transparency and protect the integrity of team decisions, Gardner will be required to recuse herself from any leadership meetings or discussions involving the selection of Voll. Although Gardner does not hold a formal voting role in team selection, the board aims to address the potential influence her leadership position could have on such processes.

Gardner released a statement addressing her separation from her wife, Monica, noting that while it is a personal matter, she understood the need for Cricket Australia to address her relationship status due to her leadership position. She expressed gratitude for the board’s support and her commitment to supporting her teammates in the upcoming season.
