Cricket bowling techniques: Knuckleballs and cutters explained

Cricket bowlers utilize various specialized deliveries to deceive batsmen and manipulate the pace and direction of the ball.

A knuckleball is a slow delivery where the bowler uses their fingers or knuckles to hold the ball, releasing it with minimal spin. By maintaining a normal run-up and arm speed, the bowler hides the change in pace, often causing the batsman to misjudge the ball's velocity and time their shot incorrectly.

Cutters are another tactical tool used to change the ball's direction after it hits the pitch. An off-cutter moves from the off side toward the leg side and is primarily generated through finger movement, typically targeting right-handed batsmen. Conversely, a leg-cutter moves from the leg side toward the off side, utilizing both finger and wrist movement. These techniques are employed to disrupt a batsman's timing, force mistakes, and take advantage of specific pitch conditions.
