Cricket grassroots programs expand in Australia and Cyprus

Grassroots cricket initiatives are expanding through community events in Australia and Cyprus.

In Orange, Australia, the Orange CYMS Cricket Club is hosting ‘Cricket Blast-Off!’, a free introductory event for children aged 5-8 at Wade Park. The program aims to introduce new players to the sport through age-based drills and games, including Junior Blasters for younger children and Master Blasters for those with basic skills. The club's full Cricket Blast program, which includes equipment from Cricket Australia, is scheduled to begin in early November.

In Cyprus, Cyprus Cricket celebrated the European Week of Sport by engaging hundreds of primary school children through the ICC Criiio programme. This initiative, which focuses on fundamental skills like hitting and catching, was recently recognized as the best cricket development initiative in Europe. The celebrations included a six-a-side tournament at Happy Valley Cricket Ground, won by MSN A, and a 40-over competition featuring teams such as the Gujarat Lions.
