Crime against elderly residents reported in Villeurbanne and Castres

Two separate incidents involving crimes against elderly residents have been reported in France.

In Villeurbanne, an elderly couple aged 90 and 83 were held captive and assaulted in their home on September 28. Three masked and gloved individuals broke into the apartment, tied the victims with cables, and physically assaulted the 90-year-old man. The perpetrators fled with only a watch and a small amount of cash. An investigation into aggravated theft and kidnapping is underway, and the suspects remain at large.

In Castres, police arrested two individuals on September 29 after they attempted to rob an elderly person. The suspects claimed they were there to offer hedge-trimming services, but police discovered one was already a wanted person and both had prior records for theft by deception. The quick intervention followed a report to emergency services.
