Crime incidents reported across São Paulo state

Several distinct criminal incidents have been reported in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

In Araçatuba, the Public Ministry has charged a municipal guard, Edvaldo Calixto de Oliveira, with qualified homicide. The prosecution alleges that Oliveira shot and killed José Roberto Nunes, 55, during a heated dispute regarding an inheritance. The incident occurred in a public area near Praça Rui Barbosa. Investigators noted the disappearance of the victim's mobile phone from the scene.

In Sorocaba, authorities are investigating the death of a man at the Aparecidinha Provisional Detention Center. The individual, originally from Mairinque, died shortly after being transferred to the facility. While prison officials claim the deceased suffered from abdominal pains, his family suspects physical assault and has questioned the delay in notifying them of his death.

In Garça, police detained an elderly man following a routine patrol. A background check revealed an active arrest warrant related to a conviction for involvement in “jogo do bicho,” an illegal gambling activity. The warrant required the individual to serve a six-month sentence in a semi-open regime.
