Crime incidents reported in Colombian buses and Ecuador

Security concerns are rising in the transportation sector following reports of theft and violence. In Colombia, a new theft method has been identified where criminals purchase bus tickets to blend in with passengers. Using security footage, it has been observed that suspects monitor travelers and wait for them to fall asleep, particularly during night trips, to steal bags and valuables from seats or vehicle storage compartments.

In Durán, Ecuador, a fatal shooting occurred on a bus in the El Recreo neighborhood. A 31-year-old passenger, identified as Jonathan Cortez Rodríguez, was killed by multiple gunshot wounds inside the vehicle. The assailant reportedly threatened the driver to stop the bus before fleeing the scene. Police recovered several shell casings at the site and are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.
