Crime incidents reported in Maranhão, Brazil

Two separate violent incidents were reported in the state of Maranhão.

In the southern region near Ribamar Fiquene, a confrontation occurred between the Maranhão Military Police (PMMA) and suspects who had stolen a shipment of cigarettes from the company Souza Cruz. During the interception near Ribeirãozinho, suspects reportedly opened fire on officers. One suspect, identified as Francisco Ferreira da Silva, died following the exchange, while another, Erivaldo Cristo da Silva, was wounded and underwent surgery. Police recovered the stolen cargo, two firearms, a balaclava, a radio, and cloned license plates. A third suspect remains at large.

In the municipality of Axixá, a man identified as Ivanildo was shot and killed inside his home during the early hours of Wednesday. According to reports, four masked men in black clothing invaded the residence and opened fire. The victim's partner and five-year-old daughter were present during the attack. Police recovered seven shell casings from .40 and 9mm calibers at the scene. The Civil Police of Maranhão are investigating the motive and the identity of the perpetrators.
