Crime investigations intensify in Ecuador and Guatemala
In Ecuador, military operations in Posorja led to the arrest of five individuals suspected of being dissidents of the ‘Los Lobos’ gang. During the operation on October 16, 2026, authorities discovered a dismembered body and several motorcycles being burned. While official identification is pending, family members of Jhon Michael D. P., known as ‘Coronita,’ believe he is the victim. He reportedly worked in fish unloading and was allegedly kidnapped from his lodging by armed men.
In Guatemala, investigations into the double homicide of lawyer Juan Francisco Solórzano Foppa and Gustavo Aguilar Gamarro in Campo Marte are facing scrutiny. Although the National Civil Police (PNC) initially detained Rigoberto and Daniel Choc Toz, the brothers were released after a judge found a lack of merit. The Public Ministry is now investigating allegations that the firearm used as evidence against them may have been planted, raising concerns about police irregularities and the involvement of organized crime.
