Crime trends diverge in Brazil as Espírito Santo and Conceição do Coité report varying homicide rates

Crime statistics in Brazil show diverging trends in different regions. In Conceição do Coité, the number of homicides recorded in the first eight months of 2026 has already reached seven, surpassing the total of four recorded during the entire year of 2025. The 2025 figures represented one of the lowest levels of lethal violence in the municipality's recent history, following increased security measures such as vehicle inspections and preventive operations.

Conversely, the state of Espírito Santo is projecting its lowest number of homicides since 1996. As of September 2026, the state has recorded 477 homicides and feminicides, marking a 10% reduction compared to the same period in 2025. Authorities attribute this decline to the 'Programa Estado Presente em Defesa da Vida', which emphasizes intelligence-led investigations, judicial warrants, and increased police presence across the territory.
