Crime trends in Spain show regional variations in 2026

Crime statistics for the first half of 2026 in Spain show varying trends across different municipalities. In Écija, overall crime decreased by 6.4%, dropping from 735 offenses in the first half of 2025 to 688 in 2026. This decline was primarily driven by a 21.1% reduction in cybercrime, specifically a 24.4% drop in computer fraud. However, conventional crime remained stagnant, and vehicle theft in Écija surged by 233.3%, rising from 3 to 10 cases. Additionally, thefts in commercial establishments and warehouses increased by 56%.

In the Madrid region, crime rates have seen significant increases. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, Pozuelo de Alarcón experienced a 7.5% rise in crime, while Majadahonda saw a 2.7% increase, totaling 2,192 offenses in the first semester. Other areas in western Madrid, such as Las Rozas and Boadilla, reported increases of 1.1% and 1% respectively. Nationally, Spain recorded a slight overall increase in crime of 0.5% during the same period compared to 2025.
