Crime trends vary in France as Castres reports fewer burglaries while Trégueux faces rising insecurity

In Castres, France, local police reported an 81.5% decrease in residential burglaries during the summer of 2026 compared to the previous year. Over a six-week period, five burglaries were recorded, down from 27 during the same timeframe in 2025. This decline follows the election of Florian Azéma as mayor and a subsequent increase in police visibility, including pedestrian patrols in the city center and market areas.

Conversely, residents in Trégueux have reported a rise in insecurity. The area has experienced a series of burglaries throughout the summer, alongside incidents such as a vehicle being set on fire in mid-August. Local residents expressed concerns regarding active reconnaissance by criminals and a general decline in neighborhood tranquility.
