Crime wave in Peru: extortion attack and retired officer killed
A series of violent criminal incidents has been reported in Peru, involving extortion and fatal attacks. In Callao, armed individuals wearing hoods stormed a rotisserie chicken restaurant on Jirón Cusco. The attackers opened fire toward the kitchen area while customers were present, causing panic as patrons threw themselves to the ground. Although no injuries or deaths were reported, investigators recovered a manuscript containing threatening messages, leading authorities to believe the attack was an attempt at extortion.
In the San Martín de Porres district of Lima, a 63-year-old retired police officer, Marcelino Llacchua Pacco, was shot and killed during an attempted vehicle robbery. Security footage captured the moment two masked individuals arrived in a silver car to steal the victim's red truck. After the victim attempted to defend his vehicle with a firearm, a shootout ensued. The attackers fled the scene on foot after the confrontation, leaving the former officer fatally wounded in front of his residence.
