Crimea bombing kills Russian submarine commander

Russian authorities have accused 32-year-old Margarita Reutt of orchestrating a bombing in Sevastopol, Crimea, that killed Robert Shageev, a deputy commander of a Black Sea Fleet submarine brigade.

The attack occurred on August 13, when a bomb containing approximately 500 grams of TNT detonated from a trash bin as Shageev passed by. Shageev, who previously commanded a Ukrainian submarine before switching sides following the 2014 annexation of Crimea, was killed instantly.

Reutt, a resident of Sochi, was arrested following the incident. According to the Federal Security Service (FSB), she confessed to the attack, claiming she was recruited by individuals linked to Ukrainian intelligence. She reportedly stated she was promised substantial cryptocurrency payments and documents to facilitate her departure from Russia. Russian investigators claim to have found a remote control at her residence believed to be the detonation device.

While Russian officials allege Reutt showed no remorse, Ukraine has not issued a comment regarding the assassination or the allegations against Reutt.
