Criminal cases reported in Australia and India
In Australia, Blake Ellis Jetson, 27, has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction in the Launceston Supreme Court for one count of indecent assault and two counts of rape against a 15-year-old girl. Justice Robert Pearce found that Jetson, who was 22 at the time of the incident, ignored the victim's distress and overcame her resistance during the assault in a hotel room. The sentence has been backdated to August 21.
In India, police in the Beed district of Maharashtra have registered a case against a woman for allegedly pressuring her 16-year-old niece into marriage. The minor reported that her paternal aunt threatened her life if she refused the marriage, prompting the girl to seek refuge with her maternal aunt and file a formal complaint. The teenager has expressed her intention to continue her education rather than marry.
