Criminal convictions issued in Wales and Panama

In Wales, Christopher Phillips has been sentenced to two years and four months in prison after being found guilty of preventing a lawful burial and committing fraud. Phillips had kept the body of his mother, Sylvia Phillips, in a freezer for nearly three years following her death in March 2023. During this time, he falsely claimed she was living in London to continue receiving government payments, totaling more than $105,000.

In Panama, a man has received a 104-year prison sentence for the sexual abuse of three minors, including his two daughters and stepdaughter. While Panamanian law typically limits effective prison time to 50 years, the court accumulated sentences for multiple offenses. Prosecutor Janeth Rovetto stated the ruling reflects a gender perspective and acknowledges the extreme vulnerability of the victims, who were children at the time the abuse began.
