Cúcuta: Mother and son killed in armed attack at their home

A mother and son were killed in an armed attack at their home in the Sevilla neighborhood of Cúcuta, Colombia. The incident occurred late on Wednesday, August 26, when two men on a motorcycle arrived at the residence and opened fire.

The victims were identified as 53-year-old María Esperanza Maldonado Rincón and her 25-year-old son, Saimon Andrés Grimaldo Rincón. Saimon died almost immediately at the scene after being shot in the chest. His mother was rushed to the Hospital Universitario Erasmo Meoz by police, but she passed away minutes later due to the severity of her wounds.

Neighbors described the victims as well-liked members of the community. Saimon reportedly had a health condition that required constant care from his mother. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive and identify the perpetrators, noting that the area has been previously flagged for issues related to micro-trafficking.
