Criminal investigations lead to arrests for sexual abuse and trafficking in Colombia and Ecuador

In Colombia, three men—David Torres Moreno, Jean Carlos Montenegro Laurido, and Thomas Aristizábal Colorado—have been sent to prison following allegations of sexually abusing a minor at a rehabilitation center in Palmira. Prosecutors allege the suspects used threats of physical violence and confinement in a punishment room to intimidate the victim. The men have denied the charges of aggravated violent sexual intercourse.

In Ecuador, authorities in Manabí have ordered preventive detention for three individuals suspected of human trafficking for sexual exploitation. The investigation involves a criminal network allegedly linked to the group ‘Los Choneros,’ which reportedly used tattoos to control victims. The case centers on a 16-year-old victim rescued in May. While three suspects face prison, a fourth was granted alternative precautionary measures, including travel bans.
